Looking at the Ruka Village Hotel & Apartments, you can see it was designed with skiers in mind. For starters, the location is perfect – in the middle of the pedestrian village, less than a minute's walk from the lifts. And next door, there’s a shopping centre where you can stock up at the supermarket and play a few games in the bowling alley.

Then there's the apartments themselves – they're typically Scandi in style and have plenty of space, and you can choose the set-up that suits you, whether that's a studio on bed & breakfast basis or a bigger self-catering apartment. They’ve all got that Finnish staple, a private sauna that's perfect for a spell of après-ski relaxation. And to step it up another notch, pick a 3-bedroom apartment and you can sit in your own outdoor hot tub on the balcony, soaking up the warmth and views.

Mealtimes can be as flexible as you like. Stick with bed & breakfast or self-catering to prep your own meals – or try out the local restaurants – or upgrade to self-catering plus or half board to get your evening meals included with your holiday.

All apartments have a kitchenette with a microwave, hobs, fridge, dishwasher, coffee-maker and kettle, as well as a drying cabinet for clothes, flatscreen TV and free WiFi. Bed linen and towels are included.

Studio with balcony and sauna (30m²) - sleeps 2-3: Twin beds, living area with single sofa bed, private shower, WC, sauna and balcony.

2 bedroom apartment with bunkbed, balcony and sauna (45m²) – sleeps 2-6: Twin bedroom, alcove room with bunk beds, living area with double sofa bed, private shower, WC, sauna and balcony. These apartments also have an oven.

2 bedroom apartment with balcony and sauna (60m²) – sleeps 2-6: Two twin bedrooms, living area with double sofa bed, private shower, two WCs, sauna and balcony. These apartments also have a washing machine and oven.

3 bedroom apartment with balcony, jacuzzi and sauna (88m²) – sleeps 2-8: Two twin bedrooms – one with an en suite with shower and WC, alcove room with bunk beds, living area with double sofa bed, private shower, WC, sauna and two balconies, one with an outdoor hot tub. These apartments also have a washing machine and oven.

Please note: If you book a studio, you'll get breakfast included each day at the Colorado restaurant. All of the other apartments are self-catering and have a bigger kitchen.

About Ruka

One of the world's first resorts to allow you to book your lift pass over the Internet, Ruka is Finland's best-known resort. Right up in Lapland near the Russian border, Ruka opens in October, offering some of the earliest skiing in the world. There are even snow cannons to boost the already decent snowfall. This really is wilderness country and with short winter days, night skiing is provided to get the most out of your lift pass. The skiing provides for all levels (to a limited degree) and you can ski to your door, but there are many other winter pursuits in which to indulge. Going here isn't just a ski holiday- it is an Arctic experience. Après-ski is limited but lively, as you would expect for such an isolated destination, but there are 9 hotels and cabins to rent, so Ruka isn't totally off the beaten track.
