Overview

Choose the Ruka Ski Chalets if you want to stay right in the heart of the action in Ruka village. With the slopes, lifts and even a supermarket just steps away, everything is within easy reach. Inside, the chalets are thoughtfully set up for a comfortable stay, with separate bedrooms and a cosy living area which is perfect for unwinding with a film after a day on the mountain. Many also come with a private sauna, so you can relax the Finnish way.

The interiors reflect classic Scandinavian design (think clean lines, neutral tones and a sleek, modern kitchen), along with plenty of space to spread out. Each chalet also features a balcony, giving you views over the slopes, village or courtyard.

When it comes to dining, don’t miss the chance to sample local flavours at Rukan Kuksa. It’s a great spot to try traditional dishes like roasted reindeer, foraged mushrooms and the much-loved Finnish 'squeaky' bread cheese and often served with sweet cloudberry jam.

All apartments have a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, TV, hairdryer and free WiFi. Bed linen, towels and end-of-stay cleaning are included. Daily cleaning available on request, for an extra cost.

About Ruka

One of the world's first resorts to allow you to book your lift pass over the Internet, Ruka is Finland's best-known resort. Right up in Lapland near the Russian border, Ruka opens in October, offering some of the earliest skiing in the world. There are even snow cannons to boost the already decent snowfall. This really is wilderness country and with short winter days, night skiing is provided to get the most out of your lift pass. The skiing provides for all levels (to a limited degree) and you can ski to your door, but there are many other winter pursuits in which to indulge. Going here isn't just a ski holiday- it is an Arctic experience. Après-ski is limited but lively, as you would expect for such an isolated destination, but there are 9 hotels and cabins to rent, so Ruka isn't totally off the beaten track.
