Gentle slopes and excellent ski schools make Zell am See a favourite for families and beginners, with pretty tree-lined runs and wide pistes overlooking the lake. Intermediates and advanced skiers can head to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, as well as explore the linked Ski Circus area for even more variety.

The town has a postcard-perfect setting, with frescoed buildings around a cobbled centre and a lakeside promenade facing the Hohe Tauern mountains.
