And when it’s time to hit the slopes, the hotel-run shuttle and free ski bus will whisk you to the lifts in minutes.

Inside, the rooms strike a perfect balance of modern design and alpine charm. Wooden floors and warm panelling give a cosy mountain feel, while the sleek finish keeps everything firmly up to date. Each room comes with a tea and coffee station and a wellness bag, so you’ve got everything you need to fully enjoy the spa.

And that spa really is something special. Spread across two floors, it features a pool, hot tub and a full suite of saunas, along with a menu of massages and treatments designed to leave you feeling utterly zen.

The indulgence continues at mealtimes. Start each morning with a generous hot and cold breakfast buffet – don’t miss the made-to-order pancakes. After skiing, an afternoon snack at the bar keeps you going until dinner. And dinner is a highlight: a 5-course feast with a choice of mains to round off your day in style.

Obergurgl is great for beginners and intermediates, which, along with good ski schools, makes for an excellent family ski holiday destination. One of the highest resorts in Austria at 1930m, Obergurgl has an excellent snow record and long season. Linked to Hochgurgl, there are over 100km of runs to enjoy. For more advanced skiers and boarders, there is often some nice off-piste to get that adrenalin pumping...

The resort itself is pleasing to the eye and offers a sense of alpine charm. Off snow activities are a little sparse, although après ski is jovial without being too hectic. Hotels are generally of a high standard, with some excellent facilities and very high end dining if you're staying at the right places!
