Overview
The Österreichischerhof is one of the most well-loved hotels in Bad Gastein, and it’s easy to see why. Run by husband-and-wife team Felix and Leda, the hotel is known for its warm hospitality and personal touch, with a dedicated team ensuring every detail of your stay is carefully looked after.
Full of Austrian character yet finished with a modern, fresh style, the hotel is spread across three connected buildings linked by an underground walkway. The rooms are bright, comfortable and offer excellent value, especially given the central location. Dining is a real highlight, with thoughtfully prepared dishes that blend influences from the Salzburg region with flavours from across Europe and beyond.
Wellness is another standout feature. The Celtic Spa offers a range of facilities including saunas, steam rooms and a soothing 32°C thermal pool. Guests can also book massages and treatments in the Celtic Vital area for an additional indulgence. As an extra benefit, the hotel is directly connected to the impressive Alpentherme Gastein, with free entry included, giving you access to one of the region’s premier spa experiences right on your doorstep.

Austrian twin beds
Austrian twin beds are very common in Central Europe. They’re simply one large bed frame containing two single mattresses, both with separate duvets and linen sets, that cannot be separated. Separate twin beds are less common and can often be head to head beds, rather than side by side, if they are available.

About Bad Hofgastein
The Gasteinertal area offers around 198km of mainly intermediate-friendly skiing, with a mix of tree-lined trails and wide, sunny bowls. A funicular from town provides easy access to the mountains, where highlights include the long 10.5km red run from the Hohe Scharte, one of the longest in the Alps.
The valley towns, including Bad Hofgastein, have a relaxed, traditional atmosphere with cobbled centres, painted façades, and a more low-key après-ski scene focused on cafés and quiet bars. Accommodation is largely made up of well-regarded half-board hotels, often with strong wellness facilities.
Bad Hofgastein is especially known for its thermal spa culture, with the Alpentherme Gastein offering saunas, pools, and relaxation spaces that define the après-ski experience. For those wanting more activity off the slopes, snowshoeing trails and ice climbing on frozen waterfalls provide alternative winter adventures.
