Gerlos
Charming Austrian village in the heart of the Zillertal Arena ski area, offering easy access to varied, scenic slopes - a great choice for mixed-ability groups
Overview
Gerlos sits at the heart of the Zillertal Arena, making it a strong base for exploring its 150km of varied pistes. Intermediates are well served by a wide network of red runs that link across valleys and peaks, including scenic high-altitude circuits and tree-lined descents between villages. Beginners benefit from nursery slopes at around 1,900m, offering good snow conditions and open views while learning.
The village combines traditional Alpine charm with a lively après-ski scene. Whitewashed chalets with wooden balconies sit around an onion-domed church, while family-run restaurants and a welcoming local atmosphere give it an authentic feel. In the late afternoon, the mood shifts as music spills from bars featuring live bands, DJs, and energetic dance floors.
Beyond skiing, Gerlos offers plenty of activities, including a 7km toboggan run, snow tubing, and tandem paragliding for a bird’s-eye view of the mountains.
