Hotel Alpenhertz is your traditional Tyrolean stay – where, if conditions are good, you can ski right back to the door down the 31a red run. If you’re not quite ready for that, the Dorfbahn ski lift is just a 2 minutes’ walk away, along with the centre of Gerlos, which is dotted with bars, cafés and restaurants – perfect for an après-ski bite or a cheeky nightcap.

Inside, it’s all about classic alpine charm – think warm tones, hand-carved wooden ceilings and pine-panelled walls. The rooms are spacious, light-filled and full of all the cosy, alpine decor you’d imagine.

And when the skis are off, there’s plenty to enjoy off the slopes too. Mornings start with a big breakfast buffet – fresh, local and totally worth getting out of bed for. In the evenings, kick back with a drink in the bar, with its crackling fireplace to set the mood. Or, if you need to recharge, warm up in the sauna and infrared cabin.
