About Baqueira-Beret
Another of the Spanish Royal Family's favourite resorts, Baquiera is also Spain's largest ski area. It's fashionable among Spaniards, which has led to higher prices than other local resorts. Baquiera provides enjoyable restaurants on and off the slopes, with the usual late start to any nightlife. Even though it's purpose-built, the village is quite attractive and the over-riding atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.
As for the slopes, all are found above the tree-line, with no resort runs. All the skiing requires a lift up, but queues are largely avoided by the high calibre of the whole lift system. Baquiera's snow record is extremely reliable and is supported by extensive snowmaking facilities. Many have also commented on the quality of customer service established by the resort's management.
For skiers/boarders, the area is best for intermediates, with a good cruising potential and some decent challenges. This does mean that beginners, once they have completed the nursery slopes, find the next step quite a big one. As for experts, they should seek out the off-piste for untouched snow, or invest in some relatively cheap heli-skiing.
Overall, with 105km of runs, Baquiera is the best ski area in the Pyrenees and is on a par with many well-known Alpine resorts. There are ample skiing possibilities, while the charm that the Spanish bring to skiing make this a great alternative to your average ski holiday.
