Sample Ski Itinerary
Day 1
Travel to the Auberge sur la Montagne. The Auberge has a well equipped ski workshop with off piste skis and equipment as well as touring kit and piste orientated skis. (Please have your equipment pre booked.) On the first evening we’ll do equipment fittings for those that need them. You'll meet the Auberge ski technicians and your instructor, Bryan Hogg, who will give a briefing on the plans for the week and distribute avalanche safety equipment for those that need it.
Days 2 to 6
Skiing in the best snow conditions to be found in the Tarentaise valley. The possibilities are endless and Bryan will sniff out the best places to ski each day. There will be technique sessions on and off piste. We’ll go by minibus each day to and from different resorts. On most evenings there will be some video analysis of your skiing from the day and some sessions on avalanche safety and equipment specifications and use.
The Auberge hot tub has a bar service as well as a sauna…so it’ll be relaxing and recuperating in the evenings. We’ll take in some après ski in Val d’Isère and have a night out in Ste Foy during the week.
Day 7
No instruction today so the day is yours to free ski. Maybe back up to Ste Foy for more fresh tracks in it’s renowned off piste terrain, maybe to Val. The massage jets in the hot tub will be seriously useful this evening.
Day 8
Breakfast at the Auberge followed by outward travel.
The itinerary is flexible depending on the weather and snow conditions, the preferences of the group and the recommendations of the instructors.
Skill: **
This early season skills workshop is ideal for competent on-piste skiers capable of skiing parallel at a steady pace on all red runs whatever the conditions and easy black runs. Participants should be keen to learn off-piste, ski touring and general mountain awareness skills and techniques but previous off-piste or ski touring experience is not required. The course will be run by Ski Instructors.
Stamina: **
You need to come to this early season course with good basic fitness and stamina. We recommend that you prepare for any trip by running, cycling or any other keep-fit activity. Generally the fitter you are, the more fun you will have.
Group Size
The maximum group size is 12 with 2 instructors.
About Ste Foy
Sainte Foy, developed only a decade ago, is an intriguing and unexpectedly challenging area close to the Italian border, on the road up to Val d'Isère from Bourg-St-Maurice. The cognoscenti from Val – particularly specialist off-piste ski schools – often use Sainte Foy as an alternative hunting ground if Val d'Isère's lifts are affected by strong winds. Or even just for a change. The village is tiny and quaint and there are only a handful of lifts. But the terrain, almost entirely in the trees and much of it off-piste, is challenging. Heli-skiers often return from the Italian slopes across the border, via some of Sainte Foy's outlying slopes.
