Acres of virgin powder to explore just a few metres from the pistes, amongst the pines trees, and on the numerous off-piste routes, such as Le Monal and the infamous north face of Fogliettaz.

Sainte Foy, developed only a decade ago, is an intriguing and unexpectedly challenging area close to the Italian border, on the road up to Val d'Isère from Bourg-St-Maurice. The cognoscenti from Val – particularly specialist off-piste ski schools – often use Sainte Foy as an alternative hunting ground if Val d'Isère's lifts are affected by strong winds. Or even just for a change. The village is tiny and quaint and there are only a handful of lifts. But the terrain, almost entirely in the trees and much of it off-piste, is challenging. Heli-skiers often return from the Italian slopes across the border, via some of Sainte Foy's outlying slopes.
