Mount Shasta
Overview
Mount Shasta Ski Park is one of the USA's most stunning mountains. Like most of the Cascade range, scattered across California, Oregon and Washington, it is a stand-alone dormant volcano. The smallish Californian ski area, however, is not actually on the mountain itself, although it used to be until it was partially destroyed by an avalanche. Instead, the resort is located in the valley between Douglas Butte and Marmot Ridge, with the awe-inspiring Mount Shasta as a backdrop. The recent opening of some tough skiing at Coyote Butte gave Shasta a total of 31 trails and increased the vertical drop to 1,390ft. There's night-skiing, too.
