Butternut Basin
Overview
Two miles east of Great Barrington, Butternut is situated on the northern slopes of East Mountain state forest. This is in the heart of the Berkshire mountains and offers the quintessential New England experience. The village offers a good range of B&Bs, inns, restaurants and shops.
A great place to learn the basics of boarding or skiing, there are 22 marked trails, set in 110 acres of skiing terrain. There are eight lifts, the highest of which reaches 1,800ft. The total vertical drop is 1,000ft and all pistes are covered by snow-making facilities. There is also a limited amount of cross-country skiing terrain available.
