Idre Fjäll
Overview
Sweden's southernmost ski area, Idre Fjäll is famous for its speed skiing. Competitions are held on a staggeringly steep slope called the Shock - which is claimed to be the steepest ski slope in Scandinavia.
There are 28km of pistes, accessed by 33 lifts, many of which are tows. It's a four-hour drive from Stockholm and a popular destination for families. There is plenty of ski-in, ski-out accommodation, but nightlife is limited. The area is great for back-country touring and the resort has good black runs, wide sweeping green runs and pretty tree runs. The total vertical drop is 302m.
