Högfjället
Overview
Högfjället may be one of the smaller resorts in the Sälen area, but it delivers brilliantly for a hassle-free ski trip. Just a quick 20-minute transfer from the airport, you can be checked in and ready to hit the slopes in no time. The Högfjällshotellet sits at the heart of the resort, with ski hire and a handy minimarket close by, while neighbouring Lindvallen is just a lift ride away, offering a wider variety of runs and plenty of off-slope activities.
Högfjället is especially well-suited to beginners. There’s a dedicated ski school meeting point, magic carpets, and gentle slopes that make learning to ski feel relaxed and enjoyable. English-speaking instructors are on hand to guide you, while younger skiers will love the playful features like mini tunnels and fun characters dotted around the nursery areas.
Unusually, the resort sits at the top of a small hill, so each day begins with an easy glide down to the lifts. From there, you can either return the same way or cruise the wide green and blue runs, all set against beautiful Scandinavian scenery. For more variety, take the lift over to Lindvallen for longer runs and more challenging pistes, as well as a snow park and fun rides. If you’re keen to explore even further, Tandådalen and Hundfjället are easily reached by free ski bus with your lift pass.
When it’s time to take a break from skiing, head over to Lindvallen’s Experium — a family favourite with waterslides, wave surfing and bowling. Adults can unwind in the spa and sauna area, while back in Högfjället, the Högfjällshotellet remains the social hub, offering a choice of restaurants, cosy bars, and a lively après-ski scene with events throughout the season.
Good to know: Sweden has stricter alcohol laws than the UK. Supermarkets only sell drinks up to 3.5% ABV (and none on Sundays), while bars and restaurants serve alcohol throughout the week.
Top tip: Högfjället is largely cash-free, so it’s best to bring a debit or credit card. Some smaller independent spots may still accept cash, but card is the norm.
