Vogel
Overview
Vogel's biggest attraction is its sheer peacefulness and tranquillity. Many visitors have commented on the quietness of the location and rated this as a considerable asset. Vogel is set in the Julian Alps, high above the scenic lakeside town of Bohinjska Bistrica. A cable car takes skiers up to the plateau, which has 36km of pistes, mostly for beginners and intermediates. As a combination with Bled and Kobla, this is a low-cost destination. It's excellent for learning and all three have ski schools with good reputations. There are only limited après-ski and non-skiing activities, but this is exactly what the refreshing atmosphere of the place demands. Vogel is only 70km from the Austrian town of Klagenfurt and its airport. Prices are excellent (a third of those in Western Europe) and you get a slightly different Alpine experience than you would in the major centres.
