Mount Elbrus
Overview
At 5,642m, Mount Elbrus easily outstrips Mont Blanc as Europe's highest mountain. Don't judge this resort by how many lifts and trails it has. Discover how skiing survives on passion and commitment alone. Meet skiers using equipment 30 years old or more. Some of the lifts are the same age, but are kept in safe working order. You will find open bowls and limited intermediate groomed runs. In mid-winter you can ski down to the base, but most of the skiing is above the first tram. There are endless possibilities for off-trail skiing. Within three to five miles of the ski area there are hotels offering basic rooms and meals. Elbrus is the highest peak in Europe and has a very active weather pattern, so dress warmly.
