Hunter Mountain (USA)
Overview
People are often surprised to hear that New York State has more ski areas than any other US state. Because of its proximity to the city, Hunter Mountain – just two hours north of New York in the northern Catskill Mountains – not only suffers horrendous queues at weekends, but also queues full of 'colourful and animated' New Yorkers.
The ski area is divided into three areas, originally named Hunter One, Hunter Mountain and Hunter West. The resort has a skiable area of 230 acres, served by 14 lifts, all chairs bar one. The 53 trails offer terrain to suit all levels of ability, with a good mix of steeps and bumps.
