Santa Caterina
Overview
Santa Caterina, found near Bormio, is a very quiet resort, ideal for families and beginners wanting to avoid crowds. One visitor said of the resort, "it may not have the best skiing in the world, but it is one of the friendliest and most charming resorts I have stayed in". It's uncommercialised, with great scenery, good value and refreshingly peaceful. There isn't much to do off the slopes, while après-ski is fairly limited. The local skiing isn't extensive (22km of runs) and is best for intermediates. Beginners will appreciate a decent ski school, but there is no provision for babies. You can buy a lift pass that will give you access to more slopes at Bormio and Livigno, but the snow is marginally better in Santa Caterina.
