Vaujany, Grandes Rousses
A tucked-away alpine village where authentic charm meets the all-you-can-ski slopes of the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine with scenic pistes to glacier skiing high above the clouds
Overview
Vaujany combines the charm of a traditional mountain village with access to the vast Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine ski area. From the village centre, fast cable cars whisk you up to 2,800m, where 250km of varied terrain awaits – from glacier skiing above the clouds to peaceful tree-lined runs and the legendary Sarenne, the longest black piste in the world.
Just one valley away from bustling Alpe d’Huez, Vaujany offers a completely different Alpine experience. The village was here long before the ski lifts arrived, and it still has all the character of an authentic mountain retreat, with cuckoo-clock chalets, a rustic stone church and traditional buildings set among pine-covered slopes. Clever escalators make getting between the village centre and the pistes effortless, while the relaxed après scene is all about cosy bars, vin chaud and unforgettable valley views.
There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained away from the slopes too. Families can enjoy a packed programme of activities, including craft workshops, discos and quizzes, while freestyle skiing events add excitement for more adventurous visitors. For guaranteed fun whatever the weather, head to the leisure centre, where you’ll find a bowling alley, swimming pool and waterslides.
