St François Longchamp
Overview
As part of the Grande Domaine, St Francois shares its ski area with Valmorel. Combined, they have 165km of pistes. Most of these cater to beginners and intermediates. Whilst Valmorel has been tastefully developed with families in mind, St Francois' growth has been more organic and unplanned. Originally a collection of small hamlets, there are now larger apartment blocks. Not a well-known destination amongst other Europeans, St Francois has kept its predominantly French clientele.
Both St Francois and Valmorel share the same strengths as skiing venues. Learners are spoilt, with excellent ski schools, nursery slopes and generous blue runs on which to progress. There are some non-skiing activities. The nightlife and après-ski in particular suffer from a lack of personality. There are some decent restaurants serving local delights. St Francois is only 1hour transfer from Chambery.
