Westendorf
A picture-perfect village with a large nursery area & slow chairlift, plus access to 288km of SkiWelt slopes for varied skiing each day
Overview
Westendorf is a great choice if you’re after scenic, tree-lined skiing and a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere. Beginners can get started on the nursery slopes close to the village, before progressing onto nearby blue runs. More experienced skiers will find some of the best red and black pistes in the SkiWelt, with wide, long runs and stunning views towards the rugged Wilder Kaiser mountains.
The village has a classic Austrian feel, with frescoed chalets lining the streets and a church clock tower marking the hours. Accommodation is traditional too, with small, family-run hotels known for their warm service and excellent food. While the pace is laid-back, there’s still a sociable après-ski scene, with local bars in the centre offering a lively end to the ski day.
When it’s time for a break from skiing, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the mountains. Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through snowy forests for a classic winter experience, or explore the area in a more modern way with a guided Segway tour along the winter trails.
