Oberau
Overview
Oberau is part of the small 'Wildschonau' pass area (42km), linked by bus to Auffach and Niederau. You can also buy the massive Kitzbuheler Alpen Pass for touring access to nearly 700km of pistes. Only 3km from Niederau, Oberau is a very small traditional Tyrolean village with 10km of its own pistes. It is very beautiful, traditional and quiet, with very few bars, restaurants and hotels.
The skiing at Oberau is really only for beginners (there is a good ski school there) and lower intermediates, while there are a few winter pursuits for the non-skier. It is at a low altitude, so the snow can be poor. Not really a skiing centre, Oberau is a quintessentially old-fashioned Austrian village, which can be used as a touring base for more considerable ski challenges.
