Leogang
In a quiet location yet with access to over 270km of pistes, Leogang is ideally placed for skiers of all abilities plus only 1 hour transfer from Salzburg
Overview
Once a traditional mining village, Leogang is now a peaceful yet superbly connected ski destination. It provides easy access to the vast Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn ski area, with 270km of pistes served by some of the world's fastest lifts. For even more variety, you can also take the gondola to the linked Zell am See-Kaprun ski area, adding a further 138km of slopes to explore.
You may find there's little reason to leave Leogang itself, however. The long, tree-lined runs descending from the Asitz mountain are among the quietest in the Skicircus, and their predominantly north-facing aspect helps maintain excellent snow conditions throughout the season. Beginners can build confidence on the dedicated nursery slopes before progressing to the wider network of gentle pistes.
Leogang retains the charm of a traditional Alpine village, with accommodation and amenities stretching along a single main road, making it easy to explore on foot. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with cosy hotel bars and inviting restaurants providing the perfect setting to unwind after a day on the mountain. Away from the slopes, there's plenty to discover too, from tobogganing and snowshoeing to cross-country skiing, making Leogang an excellent choice for a varied winter escape.
