Auffach
Overview
Auffach is part of the small 'Wildschonau' pass area, linked by bus to Oberau and Niederau and offering 42km of pistes. Living up to the translation of 'Wildschonau' (meaning 'wildly pretty'), Auffach is one of the picturesque Tyrolean villages that dot these mountains.
There are only 19km of local pistes at Auffach, which are best suited to beginners and intermediates and are the highest runs in the domain. Boarders should also enjoy themselves, with a specialist park and a half-pipe.
Auffach ideally suits families and beginners, with good childcare provision and a decent ski school. Snow can be slightly undependable, but compares favourably with Auffach's neighbours. There are some other winter pursuits for non-skiers, with reasonable restaurants and traditional Austrian après-ski, but evenings wind up pretty early.
