About Squaw Valley USA
Squaw Valley is arguably the original extreme skiing venue. This means that there is great stuff for experts - steeps, chutes, moguls and powder. The snow is incredibly reliable. Other skiers are also spoilt, as are boarders, who flock to Squaw. The resort map for the 6 linked mountains is colour-coded for lifts not runs, which means certain areas are geared for each ability group. The lift system is so efficient that queues are very rare during the week. You also have access to another 12 resorts if you fancy a bit of travel.
There are 2 options for places to stay - either at the rather limited base village, which is to be expanded, or at Tahoe City, a short drive away. Tahoe City has plenty of non-skiing activities, reasonable après-ski and access to other resorts. Because of the lack of slope-side accommodation (3 hotels), many people visit for a couple of days, or use Squaw as one of a two-centre holiday.
Overall, Squaw Valley offers the ultimate expert experience, but others will enjoy it as well. Skiing is most important here, but you do have the beautiful Lake Tahoe to enjoy for great scenery.
