About Valloire
Tucked away in the lesser-known Maurienne Valley, Valloire remains something of a hidden gem among British skiers. Those who overlook it in favour of France's bigger-name resorts are missing out on an authentic Savoyard village paired with a large, high-altitude ski area. Better still, you'll often get more slopes for your money here than at many of the country's more famous destinations.
The ski area offers an excellent variety of runs, making it ideal for anyone with a few ski holidays under their belt. Families and mixed-ability groups are particularly well catered for, as almost every lift serves both blue and green pistes, making it easy to ski together throughout the day. Beginners also benefit from learning high on the mountain, where gentle slopes come with spectacular panoramic views.
Back in the village, the charming cobbled square and beautiful Baroque church form the heart of the resort. It's compact and easy to get around, with most accommodation within easy reach of one of the two main gondolas, making early starts on the slopes simple. As Valloire is a thriving year-round community, it has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that's often missing from purpose-built resorts – and it's the perfect place to practise your French while soaking up authentic Alpine life.
