Hotel Vista Allegra, Ischgl

Ischgl is renowned for its extensive high-altitude ski area, where wide-open slopes and long, scenic descents make it a paradise for intermediate skiers. One of the highlights is the 8km Duty Free Run into neighbouring Samnaun in Switzerland, one of the longest pistes in the region. With an impressive network of modern chairlifts and a renowned snow park, Ischgl is equally popular with snowboarders.

Despite its reputation as one of Austria's liveliest ski resorts, Ischgl has retained the charm of a traditional Alpine village, with wooden buildings reflecting its farming heritage. In the resort centre, stylish boutiques, cafés and bars create a sophisticated atmosphere by day, before the famous après-ski scene takes over. From lively piste-side bars to vibrant nightclubs, evenings here are every bit as memorable as the skiing. Accommodation ranges from welcoming family-run guesthouses to luxurious five-star hotels, ensuring there's something to suit every style of stay.

For a more relaxed change of pace, head to the outdoor ice rink and try your hand at ice stock, Austria's traditional take on curling.
