Mount Bachelor
Overview
Mount Bachelor has the classic lines of a volcano – dormant, of course – with 360 degrees of skiing and boarding. Hence the brochure blurb: "Rip the steep lava chutes!" By American standards, Bachelor is big: 3,686 skiable acres, 70 runs and a vertical drop of 3,365ft. The mountain stages several major snowboarding events and prides itself on the challenging gladed skiing available to die-hard thrill-seekers on the back side of the mountain in Northwest Territory. There's plenty of easy skiing, too. But no resort base – the nearest lodging is 15 miles away.
