Bretton Woods
Overview
If you haven't been down to Bretton Woods recently, you can be sure of a big surprise when you do: the resort, traditionally something of a 'ma-and-pa' ski hill, was transformed last winter. It now boasts what is claimed to be New Hampshire's largest ski area, with the opening of West Mountain, a completely new and challenging peak. And it's going to get bigger still in 2001, when work starts on the development of another mountain, Mount Stickney, due to open the following winter. This will expand the resort's present total of 62 trails to more than 80. The resort's other claim to fame is the historic Mount Washington Hotel, a vast resort hotel almost a century old, which only recently opened its doors to winter guests.
