| Positive Pole Plants
|
| One of the most common problems I see with skiers on the steeps is a lack of use of the ski poles and effective pole planting. Making a positive pole plant when skiing steeps will momentarily anchor you and help you control your speed. It will also help you initiate the next turn more easily because your body feels lighter as you pole plant and is therefore easier to maneuver.

| As you make the turn allow the pole plant to connect positively into the snow and at this point project your hips and shoulders forwards and down the hill. You project by pushing up from the balls of your feet.
At this point the skis will become very light and much easier to maneuver on the steeper terrain. Steer the skis as need be for the gradient of terrain.
