Hotel Alex
Features
The four star Hotel Alex, in Zermatt is one of our most popular ski hotels in Switzerland, and regularly receives excellent reviews. Whilst the décor is a rather eclectic mix of alpine and art nouveau, the atmosphere is informal and relaxed. Two generations of the Perren family are still involved and have created a ski hotel where guests return year after year. At the Hotel Alex, the food has an excellent reputation and the half-board menu is one of the best we know of in Switzerland. The newly, refurbished bar and lounge have been cleverly designed to create several cosy, comfortable areas with squashy sofas in which to relax - and enjoy a cigar or late-night whisky.
Location
Set back from the main street, the Hotel Alex is in quiet location in Zermatt - very close to both the main station and Gornergrat. There is a bus stop at Gornergrat for other ski areas, or it is a 10 minute walk to Sunnegga.
Bedrooms
Rooms at the Hotel Alex, are what you would expect from a four star ski hotel in Switzerland and come in all shapes and sizes, from small single rooms to luxury suites with Jacuzzis and real wood fires. The rooms in the hotel annexe (connected by corridor) are more modern in style and spacious, whereas many of the rooms in the main hotel are wood-panelled and more alpine in character. Some rooms at the Hotel Alex have four-poster beds. Over the past couple of years many rooms and junior suites have been completely refurbished, in the same eclectic style, but with modern, marble bathrooms with ingenious jacuzzi bath/showers and plush fabrics and flat-screen TVs in the bedrooms. Some of the old working fireplaces have had to be replaced with more modern, electric real-flame models. Several of these rooms offer excellent arrangments for families with separate lounges or interconnecting rooms.
Facilities
The Hotel Alex has one of the best swimming pools in Zermatt and a host of other facilities as well, including squash and indoor tennis court. New Beauty Clinic. There is also a children's playroom.

Zermatt Resort Info
Zermatt skiing
Zermatt, according to some reporters, is as near as anywhere to perfection, so long as you are an intermediate or advanced skier. With vast and varied skiing that extends via a link with Cervinia into Italy, along with awesome scenery, Zermatt really is a great resort. The only downsides: a lack of choice for beginners and a bit of a trek to the lifts at times.
Zermatt ski resort
With amazing restaurants both on and off the mountain, a beautiful town that is traffic free apart from the electric taxis and great nightlife to suit all tastes, life down in resort isn't too shabby either. Add to this some great accommodation and good shopping and its easy to see why Zermatt is often described as "the perfect ski holiday destination". Only downside: as with a lot of Switzerland, it's not cheap.
