Forecast Update, 08/03/10, by Fraser Wilkin Sum Up - Remaining very cold with some snow, especially in the south and east.
With a bitter easterly airflow established across the Alps, the weather is unusually cold for March and there little to suggest that Spring will arrive any time soon!
Tuesday will be dry for many, but cloud will increase in the southern Alps with a little snow in places later. Northern Alpine areas can expect some lengthy sunny spells with just the odd flurry in Austria. It will be bitterly cold everywhere with temperatures struggling to surpass -10 degrees at 2000m. Wednesday will see the snow become heavier across the southern Alps, but most of the northern Alps will again sty dry and bright. It will, however, remain bitterly cold. The snow will eventually move further north on Thursday, but will become light and patchy in the west (France and western Switzerland). Further moderate snowfall is likely further east, notably in Austria. A few flurries are still possible here and there on Friday , but many places will stay dry with sunny spells, particularly in the central and western Alps. Temperatures will recover a fraction but it will remain cold.

It may have been milder of late, but any thoughts of Spring should be put on hold for a while as the Alps are heading back into the freezer! There will be more snow for many places, too.  | <><> >  | Forecast Austria Friday will be mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers, heaviest in the north and east of the Alps. Some southern regions will stay dry, but it will be bitterly cold everywhere with temperatures below freezing at all altitudes. Saturday will see a more persistent spell of snow for many Austrian resorts, though the far south (Carinthia) will again largely miss out. It will remain very cold everywhere. The weather will improve on Sunday but a few flurries will remain here and there. It will continue to feel cold. France Friday will be a fine day with long sunny spells for most of the French Alps, but it will feel much colder than of late. Saturday will start bright but cloud will increase with a little snow in the northern Alps later. Further south it should stay mostly dry but it will remain cold everywhere. On Sunday the northern Alps should be dry, but cloud and snow (600m) will push into the south later, heaviest close to the Italian border. Italy Friday will be dry and mostly sunny for the western Italian Alps. However, there will be more cloud across the Dolomites, with a few snow showers possible later. It will feel cold everywhere. Saturday will be colder still though, but most places will see plenty of early sunshine. Later in the day cloud will increase from the north with a little light snow possible close to the border regions. On Sunday heavier snow is likely in the western Alps, particularly in the south-west (eg Sestriere). Other regions will also see some snow but, it will generally be lighter. It will remain cold everywhere. Switzerland Friday will be dry in the western and southern Alps, but cloudier in the north-east with a few snow flurries. It will feel much colder than of late. On Saturday , the central and northern Swiss Alps will see a heavier spell of snow, becoming lighter and patchier as it moves south. It will be very cold in all regions. It will remain cold on Sunday with a few snow flurries here and there, and the best of any brightness in the north and west. Outlook
