Choosing a resort for you ski holiday:

Ski resorts in the USA are located on both the east and west coasts. The Rockies, on the west coast, provide those brilliant snow conditions for which skiing in North America is famous. Though resorts may often be slightly smaller than in Europe, they are large enough for the average ski holiday. If, however, you really like to cover the miles, most ski resorts in the Rockies are grouped, so for a little extra travelling in the morning you can ski neighbouring areas as well.

The eastern states of Maine, Vermont and New England, whilst that little bit closer for those flying from Europe, have smaller resorts, aimed more at weekenders from the big cities. The snow is not as guaranteed in the east as it is in the west, but snowmaking all over the USA is top-notch.

Choosing accommodation for your ski holiday:

Chalet accommodation in the US is usually of high quality. Many even middle-bracket US ski lodges have hot-tubs, saunas and outdoor pools. Self catered condominiums, or, "condos" (like apartments or little town houses) are a popular alternative to the catered chalet. Ski in, ski out accommodation isn't really a concept that US ski resorts have conquered yet, but more options are gradually appearing. As a rule, chalets, hotels and condominiums in US ski resorts are more spacious than this side of the pond, with larger rooms and mostly double beds.
