Ski Holidays in France

Ski Holidays to France

France is the most popular ski holiday destination for UK skiers and snowboarders, which is hardly surprising as French ski resorts are easily accessible for most brits by plane, train or car. The sheer variety of ski resorts in France means that there are ski holidays to suit everyone including skiing holidays for beginners learning to ski, families looking for the perfect family ski holiday plus skiers and boarders looking for either lively apres ski or extensive off-piste. Basically, a ski holiday in France is hard to beat.

Choosing a Resort for Your Ski Holiday in France

Ski resorts in France vary greatly in style. There are huge, ugly, purpose-built monstrosities like Flaine, and pretty old farming villages like Megève or Chatel. The "chocolate box" resorts may be ideal for that romantic ski holiday for two, but you can't beat many of France's purpose-built resorts for convenience. La Plagne, for example, has mostly ski-in-ski-out accommodation - making it a perfect choice for family ski holidays with young children.

For those wanting to really cover the miles during their ski holiday, France has some of the biggest ski areas in the world. Les Trois Vallées (the Three Valleys) is a prime example. Comprised of the resorts of Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens and Les Ménuires, the whole area has a massive 600km of pistes.

Did I hear you say off-piste? France is home to the originators Chamonix Mont Blanc and La Grave... need I say any more?

Choosing Accommodation for Your Ski Holiday in France

France tends to be famed for its vast quantities of self-catering Ski accommodation. However, ski chalets in France are becoming just as common. A chalet holiday in France can often work out as cheap, or cheaper, than staying in self-catered accommodation, as wine and food are usually included in the package price. Another accommodation option for your ski holiday in France is to stay in a hotel or club hotel.
