The skiing is largely for intermediates, but beginners are spoilt with nursery slopes and brilliant ski schools. Advanced ski holiday makers will love the 'Back Bowls' for powder. Boarders are well served in Vail with specialist parks, half-pipes and their own maps detailing the best spots. Beaver Creek is equally varied, with some superb black trails as a real highlight. The two are linked by bus. As with most North American resorts, the lifts and convenience in Vail are exceptional, with queues a rarity. Some superb cross-country skiing is also available.

The resort of Vail is vast and expensive, with prices increasing as you get closer to the lifts. There are a wide range of eateries, some of excellent value, as well as shops and nightlife to excite non-skiers. Vail also has plenty of off-snow activities to complement you ski holiday, with the free bus making these very accessible. Children are well catered for on and off the snow. Denver, the nearest international airport is 2½ hours away. You must also be wary of altitude sickness.

Overall, ski holidays in Vail are a great experience, with the added bonus of easy access to other resorts and terrain.
