Ski Holidays in La Plagne, France

Skiing Holidays in Meribel

Part of the Paradiski ski area, La Plagne is now linked to Les Arcs by the new cable car - the Vanoise Express. This means that will be able to travel from one ski resort to another in just 4 minutes, at more than 380 metres above the valley. Ski holidays in La Plagne are therefore far from limited in terms of choice of terrain.
La Plagne Ski Holidays: The Skiing
La Plagne offers skiing for all. Beginners and intermediates are very well served with wide boulevard-style pistes to practise those developing carves. For advanced skiers and boarders, La Plagne ski holidays offer lots of off-piste, but fewer truly testing black runs. Boarders and freestyle skiers have the choice of a 2.5 hectare snow park, a half pipe, and a fun park. All of the La Plagne ski holiday 'villages' are superbly linked, with a lift system computer-rated as the best in the world.

La Plagne Ski Holidays: Off the Snow
Those planning a ski holiday in La Plagne have the choice of 10 'villages', each self-sufficient with shops, bars and restaurants. Getting to La Plagne is relatively stress free, Chambery is the nearest airport (an hour and 45 mins away), while the ski train goes to Aime, 30 minutes away. Ski accommodation in La Plagne is largely self- catering and predominantly located in Plagne Centre (1970m) and Belle Plagne (2050m). Much of the accommodation in La Plagne is ski in ski out, which is great for family ski holidays. Kids are very well cared for, with plenty of ski-school nurseries and kindergartens. Off-snow, things aren't quite so good, with only an average selection of shops, restaurants and clubs.

Overall, La Plagne is a great resort for skiers still learning, but one that, as with many French purpose-built resorts, doesn't really capture the Alpine spirit. Top Tip: consider spending your ski holiday in gorgeous Champagny-en-Vanoise for the traditional Alpine experience and a rapid gondola link into the full La Plagne lift system - plus the chance to ski for a day in nearby Courchevel.
