Those planning a ski holiday in La Plagne have the choice of 10 'villages', each self-sufficient with shops, bars and restaurants. Getting to La Plagne is relatively stress free, Chambery is the nearest airport (an hour and 45 mins away), while the ski train goes to Aime, 30 minutes away. Ski accommodation in La Plagne is largely self- catering and predominantly located in Plagne Centre (1970m) and Belle Plagne (2050m). Much of the accommodation in La Plagne is ski in ski out, which is great for family ski holidays. Kids are very well cared for, with plenty of ski-school nurseries and kindergartens. Off-snow, things aren't quite so good, with only an average selection of shops, restaurants and clubs.
Overall, La Plagne is a great resort for skiers still learning, but one that, as with many French purpose-built resorts, doesn't really capture the Alpine spirit. Top Tip: consider spending your ski holiday in gorgeous Champagny-en-Vanoise for the traditional Alpine experience and a rapid gondola link into the full La Plagne lift system - plus the chance to ski for a day in nearby Courchevel.
