Easter Sunday 2018 falls on Sunday 21st April. Most schools break up on Friday 6th April, meaning the first week of Easter will be incredibly popular. We recommend booking as early as you can to avoid missing out on the best deals!
Our team have waxed lyrical about the virtues of Spring Skiing for years. Just look at the massive benefits of a late season break:
- Longer days, and better weather!
- Long lunches in the sun.
- No bitter February cold.
- A full season of snow accumulated.
- Fewer crowds, shorter queues and lower prices than Half Term.
- Fabulous end of season atmosphere everywhere!
Whilst high altitude does help with the snow conditions, it's not the only thing you should look for in an Easter ski trip. Think about the height of the pistes, not the village. Many resorts like Tignes, Val Thorens, La Plagne and Les Arcs have high villages where half of the pistes are actually below resort altitude. In Serre Chevalier, every single run is above the village. So there's actually very little difference; in Serre Che, the only way is up!
You should also note the orientation of the pistes. If you pick a resort where the majority of the slopes are North facing, then they will hold their snow cover better at lower altitudes than higher altitude pistes which face South. Wengen in Switzerland is a lower village but the majority of pistes face North, giving it a long season!
Finally, pay more attention to the percentage of pistes that have artificial snow making facilities. Snow depths off-piste don't matter a jot if you're staying on the groomed corduroy!
