Serre Chevalier is not a single resort but the collective name for a string of traditional villages that make up the largest ski area in the Southern French Alps. The 3 main centres, Chantemerle (1350m), Villeneuve (1350m) and Monetier are all villages in their own right complete with shops, bars, restaurants. Each village has quick access to the vast north facing ski area with an enormous variety of runs both above and below the tree line. Serre Chevalier suits all levels of skier but it is adventurous intermediates who would most appreciate the extent and variety of area.
Le Grand Hotel (Chantemerle), Serre Chevalier
Ideally situated at the bottom of the slopes, the Grand is a true ski in - ski out hotel with immediate access to the mountain by way of 3 different lifts. The hotel offers 85 simple but comfortable rooms, all with en-suite shower or bath, TV and telephone. Some south facing rooms also have a balcony.
After a hard day on the slopes why not sample the lodge style atmosphere of the public bar and enjoy a beer by the open fire. Evening meals and a selection of wines are served daily in the restaurant, or you may wish to wander into the old village of Chantmerle where an array of alternative eateries awaits!
