Glenshee , Scotland

Touted as 'Britain's largest ski area' with 40km of pistes, Glenshee is actually bigger than some of its more illustrious peers on the continent. Initial appearances can be rather disheartening, with a car park and decidedly un-beautiful buildings to welcome you. You would be best to stay in one of the smattering of hotels in the region, but will find a rather limited après-ski and nightlife. It is usually a venue for day-trippers, which fails to reflect the fact that the skiing is pretty good. The big problem is the weather and unreliable snow but when conditions are right, there's plenty for beginners and intermediates. Advanced skiers and boarders have some admirable challenges and a specialist boarding park.

Overall, Glenshee isn't really a holiday destination, but a good place to go for a couple of days skiing to get your snow legs back.
