With a ski area spread over four distinct regions Aspen offers something for everyone. Capitalising on the freedom offered, each ski area has it's own distinct flavour, allowing it to be successfully marketed to a specific group of skiers or boarders.
To a large extent this works well, the one size fits all mentality of many resorts making it hard for skiers to know where to begin being absent, and a natural progression from mountain to mountain opening up true freedom to explore your surroundings - without worrying about ending up on overly treacherous terrain.
Out of the four mountains, however, only Snowmass offers everything from green cruisers up to double black cliffs and cornices, so some mixed groups may find themselves heading off to different mountains after breakfast and not meeting up again until dinner in the evening.
A good network of shuttle buses links the four mountains regularly throughout the day, Buttermilk and Highlands being within 15 minutes of downtown Aspen, Snowmass an additional 15 minutes more.
