Past Champions
past british winter olympics winners

Britain never has come out top at the Winter Olympics, however, we do still have a set of our very own champions that have made their mark in Olympic history.
Eddie Edwards
What:Ski Jumping
When:1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary
Results:Last in both 70m and 90m events

Eddie "the eagle" Edwards was the first competitor to represent Britain in Olympic ski jumping. The Cheltenham born plasterer, who turned to ski jumping after narrowly missing out on qualifying for the GB alpine ski team, endeared himself to the world's public by losing. Repeatedly.
Torvil and Dean
What:Ice Dance
When:1980-1994
Results:First place in every competition until the 1994 Winter Olympics

Torvil and Dean are icons of their time. True champions, the Nottingham pair really did put Great Britain on the world's stage in terms of winter sports. Arguably the most memorable moment of their career was when they danced their way to gold at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics with their now famous Bolero routine.

Alain Baxter
What:Alpine Skiing
When:2002 Salt Lake City Olympics
Results:Bronze

Scottish skier Alain Baxter made British Olympic history by becoming the first Brit to win a medal in Alpine skiing. The slalom star ruffled a few feathers through his decision to die his hair the colour of the Scottish Saltier. After returning to Aviemore, traces of methamphetamine found in his blood proved more of a cause for concern. Baxter protested his innocence claiming that the positive results were caused by a Vicks inhaler bought in the USA.
