    Sauze d'Oulx skiing

Sauze d'Oulx is one of the bigger resorts in the Milky Way with access to nearly 400km of runs. The resort is great for intermediates, although beginners and advanced skiers might have a harder time. There are few nursery runs and finding more challenging terrain means travelling large distances. Snowboarders will love carving down the long wide blues, but beware, there are a lot of draglifts to contend with. However, buy a Milky Way lift pass and you'll have access to Sauze d'Oulx's neighbours Sestriere, Cesana, Sansicario and the French resort Montgenèvre

    Sauze d'Oulx ski resort

The town itself is fairly attractive, particularly the old centre (although traffic can be a problem) and restaurants on and off the snow are decent and inexpensive. Having mostly shaken off its image as Ibiza in the Alps, Sauze d'Oulx still has a somewhat hectic nightlife. There has however been a conscious attempt to extend Sauze's attractions, with the addition of ice rinks, cinemas and more sophisticated après ski options.

Snow Overview - Italy  (snow news updated 31-Jan-2012)

Lots of snow fell in parts of Italy over the weekend. The Milky Way ski area was where most of it fell, with up to 60cm falling up high on Sunday 29th January. The Ski Club Leader based in Sauze d'Oulx (80/100cm) said the runs are in great condition with the fresh snow and the cold weather coming later this week should keep it that way. 10cm of fresh snow fell at Cervinia (110/270cm). Excellent conditions exist all over the mountain and the Ski Club Leader enjoyed a great days skiing on Sunday 29th January.

    European Weather Outlook

Cloudy and snowy skies are expected to loiter over the vast majority of European resorts over the coming days although only a light level of snowfall, around 1-2cm each day, is anticipated throughout the week. Sunshine is then expected to make a come back for the vast majority of resorts by the end of this week or the start of next week. The southern French Alpine resort of Isola 2000 however could receive up to 27cm of fresh snow on Tuesday 31st January, bucking the trend of just a dusting. The other weather news of note is that temperatures are set to drop, getting below -20C in many locations by the end of this week, so make sure you have some nice warm layers to put on.
