Buy cover as soon as you book your holiday - one in five claims are for cancellation.
| |
If you are travelling to any EEC country, pick up an E111 from your
local post office before you leave - this is a reciprocal healthcare
scheme that will cover some medical costs. It will not, however, cover
you for emergency rescue, litigation or repatriation.
| |
Don't buy the cheapest policy you can find - get the policy that gives
you the best possible level of cover.
| |
Check and see what your credit card covers you for when you buy travel
or equipment. Many do not include medical cover.
| |
If you are considering going on a package holiday, always check out
the cover that is offered - although usually adequate, it won't be tailor-made
to suit you.
| |
If you buy an annual policy, ensure it covers winter sports and covers
the number of ski days and trips you plan to take.
| |
Check for exclusions i.e. off-piste, snowboarding.
| |
If you are worried about collisions, wear a helmet - they're all the
rage - and it's recommended that children wear one also.
| |
If you are taking the family, look out for special family policies,
although you should check how many children are covered and up to what age.
| |
If you do forget to sort out your insurance before leaving, you can
usually buy a policy at the airport or call Club Direct customer services on 0800 0832466.
| |
Make sure you tell the insurer of any existing medical conditions.
| |
Finally, if you are a mature skier and are further down the mogul
field of life, check the age limit of the policy.
