Chalet The Lodge   Val d'Isère , France 3.5 Stars

Our view: Large chalet with all the mod cons including ipod docks, a Jacuzzi and a Games Room.

Situated just off the main street in Val d’Isère at the top end of town, The Lodge is close enough to the action to make the most of this world class resort, yet enjoys just enough distance to find a little peace and quiet at the end of a day. The main lift station and ski school meeting points are an easy 500 metres (approx) walk through the picturesque old part of town, or even easier is to hop on the free and efficient bus service which stops just 200 metres from The Lodge. Alternatively, just 10 minutes on the bus further out of town will bring you to the long cruising pistes and glacier of Le Fornet.

The Lodge was previously run as a small hotel and so enjoys all the benefits which you would expect from such a property. All bedrooms enjoy good levels of comfort with en suite facilities and many with balconies, there is a sociable lounge/bar area with a stone double-fronted fireplace through to the restaurant, and on sunny afternoons there is a large terrace to work on your goggle-marks. Sounds great already, but then we got our hands on it, turned it into a Ski Lodge , and made it even better!

All bedrooms now have flat screen TVs and iPod docks. There's also a PlayStation 2 to entertain the big kids on the giant plasma screen TV in the games room, heated boot warmers, ample ski storage and complimentary WiFi access. No modern ski accommodation would be complete without at least a sauna, Jacuzzi or steam room, so we added one of each too.

Families have not been forgotten with extra beds at half price available for children sharing with adults and we can even arrange a private nanny for whilst you are out skiing. The top floor boasts 2 spacious suites complete with small seating areas, ideal for families or a group of friends. Add to all this to our exciting new Ski Lodge service and you have the ultimate in ski holidays.

Val d'Isère Resort Info

Val d'isère skiing

Val d'isère is justifiably ranked up there with the best resorts in the world. Lift linked with Tignes with which Val d'isère makes up L'Espace Killy, there are 300km of varied pistes to please everyone from beginners to pros. Expert skiers and snowboarders are particularly spoilt for choice in Val d'isère with the 1992 Olympic course, the 'Face', plenty of off-piste (remember to take a guide) and a world class snow park.

Val d'isère ski resort

Val d'isère has not only world class skiing but also boasts some world class après ski. The Folie Douce at the top of la Daille gondola is probably the most famous of Val d'isère's après haunts but is far from the only one. Restaurants on and off the mountain are pricey but good, which added to a good range of accommodation and lot's to do for the non-skiers makes it easy to see Val d'isère's attraction .
