Making a bit of a comeback, PSV, as it's more commonly known, is made up of 2 bases: 1400 and 1600. It doesn't have the largest ski area, with 60km of runs, but does offer reasonable skiing for most abilities. PSV best suits intermediates, while providing a limited number of slopes that will challenge the majority of skiers. For experts there are some decent black pistes and the possibility of guided off-piste. This depends on snow reliability, which is better than average, enabling a long season and plenty of sun. Beginners have great nursery runs, a good ski school and a wide range of child-specific provision. PSV is largely a family resort, which is reflected by the quiet après-ski. There are only a few restaurants and bars - by 9pm most people are tucked up in the self-catered accommodation. The village itself is good value, 20km from Briancon and uncrowded. Overall, it's a good venue at which to learn, but not for people looking for late nights and masses of pistes to bash. Challenges exist for intermediates and advanced skiers, but not enough to keep you busy for a whole week. With the relaxed atmosphere of an unspoilt village, it's worth the visit.
