Part of the 'Evasion Mont Blanc' ski area, Les Contamines offers great skiing, with advanced skiers receiving the best treatment. The off-piste is excellent but a guide is a real must. Intermediates have a good selection of pistes and can try some of the blacks, but the choice for beginners is only adequate. Les Contamines has a reliable snow record even though it is fairly low-lying. There is a broad range of accommodation and most of it is self-catering. To reach the lifts you will need to take the bus, as they are on the far side of a river. Les Contamines is largely unspoilt and maintains its rustic charm - it even has a weekly market. Nightlife is limited to a small number of bars and a couple of clubs, but the atmosphere is vibrant. The restaurant fare is nothing to write home about and is generally quite basic. A true advantage is the low transfer time, with Geneva only 80km away.
Overall, Les Contamines is an ideal destination if you are looking for a more traditional experience. Prices aren't too steep and if there isn't sufficient skiing for your needs you can always skip over to other resorts in the Evasion area.
