Always one of the best located ski hotels in the Meribel valley, the Altiport is now also one of the most sought after, thanks to new owners Delphine and Christophe who have undertaken extensive refurbishments. The Altiport now has 3 fabulous restaurants to chose from - a Brasserie as well as Savoyarde and Gastronomic eateries where the talented and award winning chef will have guest drooling over his creations.

This gem of a hotel is nestled between the fontany forest, Meribel's Altiport and the ski slopes-beautiful views and unrivalled access make it a brilliant choice for skiers of all abilities. Fantastically the ski school meeting point and ski lifts are just a stone's throw from the hotel's door. Keen skiers wanting to explore the 3 valley can head straight for the Col de la Loz chair and be among the first of the day to ski down into Courchevel or La Tania.

For beginners or nervous intermediates, there is no better location with some of the gentlest slopes in the valley right on your doorstep. Better skiers will also love the ease with which you can access both the local slopes and those of the 3 Valleys. And, just in case you find yourself down in the village after the lifts close (or indeed at any other time of the day) a courtesy minibus service is available to whisk you back to the comfort of your hotel.

Location

Situated up at the Altiport level of Meribel, it has an enviable ski in-ski out location and magnificent views over the resort and the valley below.

For 2011, all rooms have been tastefully renovated with plenty of wood to create and authentic alpine ambiance. Families will particularly appreciate the "Chalet rooms" that can accomodate 2 children in a connecting annex.

Méribel Resort Info

Méribel lies in the heart of the Three Valleys, which remains one of the most popular ski areas in the Alps. It has 200 lifts, 600km of well linked, all-ability pistes and off-piste to match. Intermediates will flourish, but the weaker and stronger skiers aren't overlooked, as there is something for everyone. Boarders and freestyelers have the coice of 2 snowparks, with 5 more in other Three Valleys resorts.

 

Méribel ski resort

The resort actually consists of five separate parts but the two main areas, which comprise the vast majority of the accommodation, are Méribel-Centre and Méribel-Mottaret. Both are largely chalet and apartment based, with a limited choice of hotels, meaning that the restaurant selection could be better. There are, however, easily enough bars and clubs to keep the younger crowd happy.As with anywhere popular, slight queues can build up and the pistes and roads may become crowded in peak season. Also, prices can be almost as steep as the slopes themselves.

Overall, a good, if disjointed ski resort at the centre of a great domain. Aesthetically quite appealing because of the many chalet-style buildings, Méribel's biggest plus is its location at the heart of the Trois Vallées. This should override almost any criticism, although if you want to avoid Brits, this isn't the place…
