La Rosière 1850 Resort Info

La Rosière skiing

La Rosière is lift linked with the italian resort of La Thuileand has a great snow record. The two resorts, although unlikely stablemates, form a substantial ski area with plenty of long wide runs to please intermediates. La Rosière also provides a useful gateway to some exciting heli-skiing over in Italy, enabling locals and ski holiday makers in France (where heli-skiing is banned) to heli-ski in Italy to their hearts' content (bookable through the Evolution 2 ski school), before returning to France's Tarentaise Valley. The combined area has 33 lifts and 135km of pistes.

The main draw back for those wanting to ski the Italian side is that the lift link is a long pomma lift and not suitable for beginners, young children or snowboarders not proficient in riding long pommas.

La Rosière ski resort

La Rosière, although purpose built, is a gem of quintisential alpine charm. There isn't a great deal to do off snow, although visitors are happy enough whiling away the evenings in the relaxed bars and restaurants (the Petit Danoise is popular and offers sky tv sports coverage plus internet access)  The locals are friendly and the prices are cheaper than most other tarentaise resorts.

Snow Overview - France  (snow news updated 31-Jan-2012)

Heavy snowfall returned to almost all our featured French resorts over the weekend. Cauterets (75/215cm) in the Pyrenees enjoyed 50cm of new snow on Sunday 29th January and Les Deux Alpes (90/300cm) received a whopping 70cm on Saturday 28th January. However, on Monday 30th January, the resort experienced low cloud cover which created poor visibility, but there were 43 lifts open. This theme was common all over France on Monday and although only a few resorts received fresh snow on Monday, the cloud cover combined with the low temperatures means further snowfall could be on the way. The southern French resorts also welcomed fresh snowfall over the weekend. This dramatically improved the pistes as it had been sometime since it had last snowed in the area. For example, Isola 2000 (45/79cm) received a respectful 20cm on Sunday 29th January and it continued to snow lightly in Foux d'Allos (55/85cm) on Monday.

European Weather Outlook

Cloudy and snowy skies are expected to loiter over the vast majority of European resorts over the coming days although only a light level of snowfall, around 1-2cm each day, is anticipated throughout the week. Sunshine is then expected to make a come back for the vast majority of resorts by the end of this week or the start of next week. The southern French Alpine resort of Isola 2000 however could receive up to 27cm of fresh snow on Tuesday 31st January, bucking the trend of just a dusting. The other weather news of note is that temperatures are set to drop, getting below -20C in many locations by the end of this week, so make sure you have some nice warm layers to put on.
