Hotel Pointe Isabelle

Features

  • Terrace/Balcony
  • Bed and breakfast
In 1875, Lady Isabella Stratton and her guide, Jean Charlet, conquered a new peak which was christened “Pointe Isabella”. She married her guide and it is now their great grandchildren that are proprietors of the hotel named after her. Whilst it is a simple two-star, it is a great place for a good-value stay in Chamonix and a welcome addition to our Short Breaks programme. Located between the railway station and the main pedestrian area of Chamonix, it is close to everything including a bus stop to take you to the different ski areas. All rooms have bath or shower room, TV and many also have balcony with great views of the surrounding peaks.

Chamonix Resort Info

Chamonix skiing

With its proud position along side magnificent Mont Blanc, Chamonix offers awe-inspiring scenery as well as amazing skiing. Chamonix's skiing does favour more advanced skiers, providing access to the Vallée Blanche, off-piste terrain to test the very best and the Grands Montets in Argentière, so beginners might feel a bit left out on Chamonix ski holidays. It is also disjointed, being made up of a series of smaller bus-linked resorts so getting about can be difficult if you're without a car.

Chamonix ski resort

Chamonix itself is a beautiful town that provides everything that you could want and more; rocking nightlife, plenty of good restaurants, things to do all year-round and it's just over an hour from Geneva airport. On the down side however, Chamonix is also pretty expensive, with shopping nearly toppling skiing as the favorite pastime.

Even so, Chamonix is one of the great resorts, one that attracts the best skiers - people who really want to challenge themselves. It retains a special aura - one that only a few resorts in the world manage to create.

Snow Overview - France  (snow news updated 31-Jan-2012)

Heavy snowfall returned to almost all our featured French resorts over the weekend. Cauterets (75/215cm) in the Pyrenees enjoyed 50cm of new snow on Sunday 29th January and Les Deux Alpes (90/300cm) received a whopping 70cm on Saturday 28th January. However, on Monday 30th January, the resort experienced low cloud cover which created poor visibility, but there were 43 lifts open. This theme was common all over France on Monday and although only a few resorts received fresh snow on Monday, the cloud cover combined with the low temperatures means further snowfall could be on the way. The southern French resorts also welcomed fresh snowfall over the weekend. This dramatically improved the pistes as it had been sometime since it had last snowed in the area. For example, Isola 2000 (45/79cm) received a respectful 20cm on Sunday 29th January and it continued to snow lightly in Foux d'Allos (55/85cm) on Monday.

European Weather Outlook

Cloudy and snowy skies are expected to loiter over the vast majority of European resorts over the coming days although only a light level of snowfall, around 1-2cm each day, is anticipated throughout the week. Sunshine is then expected to make a come back for the vast majority of resorts by the end of this week or the start of next week. The southern French Alpine resort of Isola 2000 however could receive up to 27cm of fresh snow on Tuesday 31st January, bucking the trend of just a dusting. The other weather news of note is that temperatures are set to drop, getting below -20C in many locations by the end of this week, so make sure you have some nice warm layers to put on.
