Alpe d'Huez Resort Info
Alpe d'Huez skiing
Alpe d'Huez ski resort offers something to challenge all levels of skier. Two of the biggest attractions for the more advanced skier are the 2230m vertical drop and a 16km black run. Off-piste skiing is also excellent, with decent snowfalls, exceptional scenery and sunnier-than-average weather. Boarders and freestyle skiers are also catered for with a fairly decent snowpark and a funpark for those starting out.
Alpe d'Huez ski resort
With development into a ski holiday destination beginning in the late '60s, Alpe d'Huez did for a long time remain a largely French resort, although it is now welcoming more and more British skiers. Alpe d'Huez still draws a large weekend crowd, with its own altiport and Grenoble only 90mins away. Restaurants are of a good standard both on and off the mountain, and nightlife is ever improving with more and more bright young things gracing these parts.
Overall, Alpe d'Huez is very good, particularly for families who want to eat well, enjoy great scenery and have access to a ski domain to suit all levels.

Snow Overview - France (snow news updated 11-Dec-2013)
Thanks to the excellent start to the winter season in France many resorts opened early this weekend and there is fantastic on-piste skiing all over the French Alps.
Meribel (30/100cm), Val Thorens (65/105cm) and Courchevel (69/99cm) are now all open for the season in the Three Valleys. Although there has been no recent snowfall all three resorts have strong snow bases and enjoyed clear weather all weekend.
Isola 2000 (40/60cm) La Clusaz (15/70cm) and Les Menuires (20/105cm) are all also now open every day and provided fast skiing on hard-packed pistes on Monday 9th December under sunny skies.
There is still brilliant skiing to be found in Tignes (40/140cm) which has enjoyed consistent sunshine recently. The resort now has over 50 lifts open and the best skiing can be found on groomed runs.
Val d’Isere (40/80cm), Les Deux Alpes (15/170cm) and Alpe d’Huez (20/150cm) have also been enjoying spring-like conditions in December and the warm and sunny weather continued at each resort on Monday 9th December.
European Weather Outlook
The sunny weather looks set to continue in Europe with France, Switzerland and Austria all expecting clear skies and dry days throughout next week. Temperatures could also rise to above 5C in some places.
While very little snow is expected to fall anywhere in Europe this week Bulgaria could receive light snow during the middle of the week in preparation for opening day at Bansko next weekend. There is also some much-needed light snow forecast for Oppdal in Norway.
